Cheap Escapism vs Healthy Escapism…
Most people think escapism is a bad thing. Like it's some kind of weakness or a way to avoid your problems. But the truth is, escapism can be a powerful tool take your mind off something to come back with way more ideas.
It's all about the type of escapism you choose…
Cheap Escapism is like a quick fix. It gives you instant gratification, but it doesn't address the root of the problem. Think of it like eating junk food. It might feel good in the moment, but it's not going to nourish you in the long run.
Healthy Escapism, on the other hand, is like a well-balanced meal. It provides you with the nutrients you need to thrive. It helps you recharge, refocus, and come back to your problems with a fresh perspective.
Examples:
Reading
Watching Youtube videos, shows, movies
Playing video games (intentionally)
Watching TikTok while doing tasks you don’t find enjoyable on it’s own
Deep Work is one form of healthy escapism. It's about fully immersing yourself in a task, losing yourself in the flow state. This can help you to be more productive, creative, and fulfilled (I might just pair this with healthy escapism on the Ego Evo chart).
So, the next time you feel the urge to escape, make an intentional choice. Just make sure you're choosing the right kind of escape.
Remember, it's not about avoiding your problems. It's about taking care of yourself so you can better face them.
