Losing Your Luxuries
Or Losing your soul? Which is worse?
Today’s Email
From Ego Evolution Theory
I be clinging onto some material possessions not gonna lie…
My “eveything” laptop, tri-folding phone (LG WING), smoothie blender, & red light machine are my top tech possessions I can’t live without.
For you, it may be different….
But what if I told you there's a more important fear to consider? The fear of losing your joy.
I hope the image spoke for itself but on the top, I put a person running away from a diamond, symbolizing the fear of losing material possessions. While this fear can be valid, it's often fleeting.
And on the bottom, a person running towards a sparkling eye, symbolizing the fear of losing joy. This fear is much deeper and more profound. It's about losing your sense of purpose, your passion, and your connection to something greater than yourself.
Joy being way more valuable than all my gadgets and tech combined.
Since you lose the plot of the story if the only joy in your life is with buying more things…
To fill the hole where joy is supposed to be
How to prioritize joy then?
Laugh at the ego’s absurd thoughts
Identify your passions & do them often
Suffer deeply without numbing the pain away (so no more pain becomes bigger which becomes trauma stored in the body — feel fully into your emotions to express them)
Schedule time for your hobbies and interests.
Connect with others (even via calling works at the bare minimum)
Spend time with people who make you happy.
Comment something that sounds cringe but makes you laugh like a loonatic (on videos you watch)
Focus on the good things in your life.
Review some gallery posts/journal entries to see how far you’ve come (from years ago)
Let go of what doesn't serve you. Don't cling to things that are holding you back.
But how about protecting your fear of losing your joy? (what I do)
Rewatching favorite movies/shows you loved as a child (latest one watched was Meet The Robinsons)
Having toys laid around my home to play/fidget with them randomly
Speaker playing music in the background while doing any task
Blocking anyone on social who influence you to indulge in any form of cheap escapism (which numbs your joy)
Avoiding alcohol, smoking, vaping, toxins, and anything that gives me that “dead inside” look
Sometimes not using my favorite tech & do the activity raw to reset my dopamine sensors
And more but don’t have a full fleshed-out list yet!
These work for me but will they work for you? I’m not sure. Use what works for you and ditch the rest.
Joy is a choice! It's not something that just happens to you. You have to make a conscious effort to prioritize it. A rainy day can seem depressing or it can be seen as nourishing (for the mind & nature). It all depends on how you choose to see it (see how it can make it better in the future).
