Social Validation vs Self Validation. What’s the difference?

Check out this visual breakdown:

  • Social Validation: Think of it as a never-ending chase. You keep needing more and more to feel good about yourself. It's like those red dots in the image, constantly growing and demanding attention.

  • Self-Validation: Imagine it as a solid foundation. It's stable, reliable, and doesn't need external validation. It's like those green circles, growing steadily and confidently. Those representing the confidence and self esteem in yourself.

Social validation can be a quick fix, but it's not sustainable. It can lead to anxiety, depression, and a constant need for approval.

Self-validation, on the other hand, is a long-term investment. It takes time and effort to build, but it's worth it. When you believe in yourself, you're more resilient, confident, and happier.

Here are some tips to cultivate self-validation:

  • Practice self-compassion. Be kind to yourself, especially when you make mistakes.

  • Set boundaries. Don't let others dictate your worth.

  • Focus on your strengths. Celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small.

  • Challenge negative thoughts. Replace them with positive affirmations or positive logical reasoning laughing at how absurd they sound.

  • Spend time with people who support you. Surround yourself with positive influences.

Remember, you are enough. You don't need anyone else to tell you that. When you value yourself you begin to not value to opinions of others from those who you don’t find inspiring.
