Specifizing > Generalizing

Generalizing leaves you valuing nothing, specifizing leaves you valuing...

Today’s Email

Generalizing leaves you valuing nothing. When we generalize, we're essentially saying that everyone or everything in a certain group is the same. We're not seeing the individual, we're just seeing the group. This can lead to a lot of problems, like prejudice and discrimination.

Specifizing leaves you valuing uniqueness. On the other hand, when we specify, we're focusing on the individual themselves or individual qualities. We're seeing the unique qualities that make each person or thing special. This can lead to a greater appreciation for each imperfect thing and make a more compassionate culture/world.

From the Ego Evolution Theory chart:

Specifizing. Specifying. Both are the same… I just prefer to have all successful terms to with -ZING

How do we make this practical?

  • Pay attention to the details (awareness)

  • Discover why/how those details came to be (curiosity)

  • Learn more about why those details came to be (appreciation)

  • Discover how those details serve a purpose (holism)

  • Utilize them to see how they can help you in your life (utilization)

Uniqueness is the one thing that separates other successful candidates/workers/friends/clients/partners from you. When everyone is a “protagonist”, the thing that separates you is your unique differences that sometimes are outside of your control (not a bad thing)

So identify yours and use it as your protagonist’s superpower? Your choice 🌟
